About Us – The Echo4x4 Story

The Echo 4x4 journey began in 1984 in South Africa and has developed into a modern successful business in the off road camper trailer, caravan and 4wd industry. The business today builds and markets its products in Africa, Europe, and Australia and soon also on the North American continent.

This dynamic industry leader has built over 10,000 trailers to date and continues to be highly regarded as a manufacturer of tough, durable and innovative offroad products. These products are also renowned for holding their value and are eagerly sought after in the second hand market should one become available.

The Company Echo4x4 South Africa is owned and managed by Willie and Rochelle Grobler and supported by a team of over 200 employees. Willie, an aircraft engineer and ex rally driver supported by Rochelle, who has extensive experience in marketing and business management have developed this business which now incorporates National Tent & Sails (NTS) into a well-regarded organisation.

The business markets quality off road camper trailers, caravans, crossovers, tents, canvas products, 4wd accessories, quad bikes and jet skis. The premises in Centurion between Johannesburg and Pretoria  has a 4wd fitment centre, a 4wd shop, café and showroom as well as the steel fabrication, paint shop its own powder coating facillity and assembly lines. State of the art equipment such as Robot welders, Laser cutting and CAD (computer aided design), CNC  (computer numerical control) and CAM (computer aided manufacturing) is utilised. 

The canvas products are manufactured by National Tent & Sails wholly owned subsidiary of Echo 4x4 who has been supplying quality products including military products for over 40 years.  NTS not only manufactures canvas products for the camper trailer and caravan products but also tents and canvas products ranging from a cutlery bag up to large permanently mounted safari tents. 

Echo4x4 Campers started in 2010 with its Directors, Daniel Karsten and Duncan Croxon importing two Kavango’s and an Echo5 into Australia. These were tested and reviewed, resulting in changes being made to ensure the vehicles were compliant with the Australian Design Rules. Following these changes and a number of visits to South Africa, Echo4x4 Campers opened in September 2011 in Vineyard, New South Wales. The premises houses the Kavango, Namib, Echo5 and Echo3 as well as rooftop tents and tents.

It is Echo 4x4 Campers intention to establish a representation in every state in 2 years.

The reaction to the Echo products has been fantastic at shows, at the showroom and on the web. People like the tough compact crossovers and camper trailers, their high level of standard inclusions and the innovative way there is a place for everything.
